emotions she brought out in him. He loved her.
No sense of panic set in as he allowed the words to settle in his soul. Only a feeling of rightness and absolute contentment that bathed his soul with a sense of peace.
Taking his life in his hands, Remi brushed the damp strands of hair from her flushed face and gently pressed soft kisses on her glowing, sweat-dampened hairline, inhaling the perfume of sex and their combined scents.
“Are you speaking to me?” he asked. A tentative smile formed on his lips when Kelli didn’t immediately swat his hands away. “I can get down on my knees and beg, if necessary.”
A dark brow lifted in amusement as her eyes danced. “Only if I can pick the place,” she teased.
The humour in her voice lifted the weight from his chest and, for the first time since he walked into her office, Remi felt like he could actually draw in a full breath. “So.” He cocked his own brow back at her. “You willing to take a chance on me now, on us?”
The humour slipped from her gaze as she rolled to lie on his stomach. Soft, plump breasts pressed against his chest and somehow his cock found the energy to rise again. But for now he ignored the stubborn thing and focused on Kelli.
“I never believed in much until you came along. Even then, I didn’t trust our initial reaction. You had to go and prove me right.”
Remi opened his mouth to protest, but Kelli cut him off by putting her fingers over his mouth. “Shh,” she whispered, “let me finish.”
Remi nodded and dropped his head back to the pillow.
“No one ever let me in, let me see so deep inside themselves before. When you did, I didn’t know what to think or how to react. It was like you looked into my heart and gave me every dream I’d never even known to pray for.” Tears threatened to spill over before Kelli blinked them back, cleared her throat and finished her explanation. “I’m going to trust you, Remi, because it’ll hurt more if I don’t. If I don’t take this chance on us, then I’ll spend the rest of my life wondering and I refuse to live that way anymore. I refuse to pretend I don’t already love you when I do. So here’s me saying yes, offering you my trust and heart. Please don’t break either one.”
This time, he was the one with tears brimming in his eyes and, with no sense of hesitation, Remi let the salty fluid escape and trickle down his face. “ Chère .” He pressed fast, hard kisses to the pulse of her throat, the tender skin of her temples and finally her eyelids. “You are my world. I’d rather cut out my own heart than do anything to make you turn your back on me. I love you, Kelli. I love everything about you and if I didn’t think you’d run away screaming I’d be down on one knee asking you to be my wife.”
He watched her expression carefully, his heart expanding at the sheer joy and wonder in her eyes. “You want to marry me?”
“More than I’ve wanted anything in my life,” he told her sincerely, cupping her beautiful face in his hands. “You are my life, my heart and my soul. Kelli, you’re the reason I breathe. How can I not want you as my wife, to live with me and share our lives together?”
Without saying anything else, Kelli threw herself into Remi’s arms. “I do love you, you sneaky Cajun. I’d love to spend the rest of my life as your wife and mother to your children.”
“Oh God, chère , you have no idea how happy you’ve made me.”
Sniffling back a few tears, she blinked rapidly at him, her big, green eyes glowing with love. “Then show me,” she leant down to whisper softly in his ear, before quickly nipping the tender flesh. “We’ve got those three boxes of condoms and we shouldn’t let them go to waste.”
Remi needed no further encouragement as he brought their bodies together and set out to prove that she’d never have a reason to regret giving him a second chance. Even if it meant keeping her in bed or on other flat surfaces for the rest
