Chapter 1

Anna sensed his presence before he was against her; his hot breath nearing her neck. How could she not? He used to be her entire world. His almond and cedar cologne filled her nostrils.
"You look incredible," he said and licked his lips, barely inches away.
She pictured his thick, muscular body and steeled herself before turning around. She refused to let him in. Even if he was the most handsome thing she’d ever seen. He still made her heart beat fast, though it was painful remembering what they what they used to be. Her fox-like senses were acute, and his scent drew out her primal urges. Keeping her wits about her would be a challenge. "What are you doing here?"
"I've missed you," he growled lowly in her ear, sending shivers down her back. His large, masculine hand came to rest on the small of her back. She lingered on his hands, the very hands that used to caress her body and turn her into a weak-kneed lover, wobbling from exhaustion.
Anna grounded herself before she fell into his magnetic spell. She rarely thought of anyone else since their break-up, but she forced herself to move on. She had to. It was the only way to heal. "Have you now?" She forced her libido back into a tightly controlled space. "How could you possibly miss me?” Anna snapped at him. “You’re the one who chose to walk away and betray me. We're through," she rattled on. Stay strong. Don’t let him see he still makes you weak in the knees.
"Let me make it up to you. ” His strong body was pressed dangerously close. “I know all of your secret little spots,” he teased. “Let me remind you of how you used to claw and cry out with pleasure." Matt Stryker drew a lone finger across her collarbone and whispered in her ear, causing the tiny hairs on her neck to stand. "Let me back into your world, Anna. You know there's nobody that can make you feel the way that I can."
Anna bit her cheek, trying to reel back the emotions flooding through her. She hated that her body responded, even when her mind was saying no. She squeezed her thighs together. When he was in human form, it was easier to control the urges, but when he tore into his bear form, when he got raw and powerful, she knew she didn't stand a chance. Their animal attraction was strong; though bears and foxes aren’t usually drawn to one another. Their love was unlike any other... until he walked away. It left her shattered and picking up the pieces of her heart. It tasted of pungent anger and pain.
She gave him the better part of two years. He gave her a line about bears not mating for life and moved on. He'd always had an eye for their resident newscaster, Bunny St. James… the bitchy bunny on the block. He wanted to tame her, take control, but he found out the rabbit wasn't as much fun as he'd hoped for. He grew restless and bored, and by the time he came to his senses, Anna had moved on.
Tom “ Hawk” Devlin flew into the tavern and landed on her shoulder.
"Hey babe," she said, a smirk forming on her lips. Matt deserved this. He broke her heart.
With a snap of his jaws, Matt's snout started to turn. A roar grew up from his belly and blew out of him shaking the room. Hawk wasn't worthy of Anna's love. "Why is this flying chicken sitting on your shoulder," he snarled. The thought of another man touching her sent him into an internal, twisted rage. She was his. Or she would be again. He’d made damn sure of it…whatever it took.
Hawk shifted to his human form and stood chest to chest with Matt. "She’s moved on, Matt. She's taken. You walked away, remember? Somebody had to pick up the broken pieces of her heart."
"If you think Anna won't come back to me, you're sadly mistaken," his arrogance speaking for him. "She needs me, as much as I need h er. We're meant to be together.”
"I thought bears didn't mate for life," Hawk shot back, daring Matt to discount his words.
"This bear does." He snapped at Hawk, inches from his face. “You better watch it, buddy.
