brief wink and she sighed, thankfully her job was safe and a promotion would be on the cards.
“So, as I am sure you can understand I am going to want this to happen before your final pitch for the campaign and then if all goes well we can sign on the dotted line.”
For a moment Jake saw the man’s smile drop, but just as quickly it was replaced, ever the professional.  “No problem.  Gina will be happy to fly across for a few days.  You name the day and she’ll be there.”
Jake looked across to the woman sitting at the end of the table, Gina - he was sure she would be perfectly good at heading up the team and being their point-person, but that wasn’t what he had in mind.  He shook his head as he stood up, buttoning up his suit jacket signalling the meeting was coming to an end.
“No, Victoria is going to be the point-person on my business.”  He could hear the small gasp from Victoria but he didn’t look her way, and neither did he look at the other two team members who were almost choking on their coffee.  Jake kept his attention firmly on Ben Churchill.
“Jake with all due respect, I can assure you that Gina is a highly respected and an excellent marketing ……..”
“No Ben,” Jake interrupted, he knew exactly what he wanted and nothing less would do.  He knew men like Ben Churchill and had no doubt that as soon as he walked out the door Ben Churchill would be giving Victoria the photocopying and art room runs, not the fair shot she deserved.  Victoria was good, he could see that for himself, and he liked that she had the guts to go after his business solo and tell him exactly what she wanted, no playing around, no games.  He liked people like her, he liked women like her.  In fact Jake liked Victoria.  “I am sure Gina is very good and I will be very happy for her to work on the account, but if it wasn’t for Victoria I wouldn’t be standing here right now, and I think we all know that.  She has already shown me what she can do without any back-up from your excellent company, and she has been right in the thick of it with one of my own publicity stunts already.  Victoria is the woman for the job.”
Ben Churchill’s cheeks were turning a shade of red, he didn’t like being told what to do, not even by one of the best clients he would ever get.

Victoria was still sitting in shock.  She had no idea Jake was going to come out with this! She couldn’t go to Miami, she was in the final stages of preparing for her wedding, and yes she had most of it organised but there were still dress fittings to do and last minute little things that would come up.  What the hell?  And what was Mark going to say about this, she wasn’t sure he would be too happy with her jetting off to Miami for a few days.

“I need Victoria in Miami by Monday.  We have a very busy marketing schedule planned for the next month so I am going to need her there for most of that.  Shall we say at least two or three weeks, maybe a bit more.”  Jake turned to Victoria, he could see she was shell-shocked.  “Is that okay with you Victoria?”
“Erm I don’t know, I’m sorry.”  She mumbled not sure what to say.  This was a huge opportunity, something she had wanted for so long, and more.  But why did it have to come at such a bad time?
“No that’s fine Jake.  Victoria will be there, we’ll take care of it.”  Ben quickly interjected.
“I must go now.  Can you walk me out Victoria, we can discuss a few of the finer details on the way.”  Jake said as he opened the meeting room door and waited for her.
Finally she found her feet and walked with Jake out of the room and along the hallway.

“Jake, I’m sorry but I don’t think I can go.  You know I have my wedding in a few months time.”
“And you told me it was all organised.  So what’s the problem?”
“Can’t Gina go and I’ll be your liaison here?”
“You know you’ll be back to running errands for that
