tears Cassandra tried so desperately to keep it in but it couldn’t be contained anymore. It wasn’t that people didn’t love her; her mother and her sister surely did. No one had ever just sat her down and explained why. Truly it was very confusing being loved but not knowing why. She never knew what values and virtues people liked about her and what they didn’t.
Unable to hide his small smile, Lukas couldn’t squash his triumph at the simple fact that he’d cracked Cassandra like an egg. She’d opened up to him, and he knew without a doubt that she’d never done that with anyone before. Out of the corner of his eye he saw her lifting her hands, but he didn’t try to stop her from striking his chest. First it was a few weak punches, but then they got harder and she even scooted closer to him.
“I hate it! I hate it! I hate it!” Cassandra started to sob, but Lukas didn’t shy away even though she faintly registered his breath huffing when she struck him. Even though she expected to feel disgusting it just wasn’t there, and the longer she let herself cry the lighter she felt. After a while her hands started to hurt, her arms shook and she could barely breathe, and it was only then that he wrapped his arms around her.
“I know, baby.” Cocooned in strength and security, her chest tightened as he spoke low into her hair, his hand pressing firmly against her back. She hadn’t realized how much she missed his hugs.
“Do you… Do you think I could stay with you for a little while?” Nodding absently, Lukas ignored his inner beast’s screech of triumph at her small, hiccupping request. This was only one battle in a war he hadn’t won yet. After all, he hadn’t even shifted in front of her, and being confronted with a dragon twice as tall as himself was scary for anyone.
“Yeah, Cassy, for as long as you want.”
Trudging into Lukas’s apartment, Cassandra pushed off her sneakers and instantly dropped onto the couch to rub her face for the tenth time since leaving her house. Behind her she could hear him dropping her back pack on the hardwood, but it didn’t take him long to sit beside her and throw his arm across her shoulders.
“If you’re going to live here you have to pay rent, Cassy.”
“But didn’t you say…”  Turning to find a small smirk on Lukas’s face, Cassandra felt her face heat up when she realized he wasn’t talking about money. Immediately glancing down at her lap, she let out a small huff, but was surprised to find she really didn’t mind the sexual innuendo. If the past few days were any indication she expected to feel uncomfortable and out of place, but it was as it had been since the first met. She felt instead something similar to freedom. It was like she could be herself around him and never be judged badly. The thought brought a small smile to her face before he tightened his arm around her to pull her into his lap, straddling his waist.
“You’re so sexy when you act all innocent, baby. It’s a major turn on.” Capturing Cassandra’s mouth before she could reply, Lukas groaned as that familiar heat spread through his body like a raging fire. She needed some loving after everything she’d been going through and he was perfectly happy to comply. Sneaking his hand into her thick, mahogany hair, he felt her shiver acutely over the crotch of his jeans as her own fingers wrapped around his jaw. It was something he loved about her.  She didn’t grab his hair even though she liked her own being tugged on.
Opening her mouth with little prodding, Cassandra felt her mind reel at how fast the tables could turn. Only half an hour ago she was hitting Lukas, crying into his shirt. Now she was making out with him shamelessly. It was almost enough to give her whiplash if he wasn’t so sweetly distracting her. Despite their time apart, his kisses were still tender and soft, managing to pull a small whimper from her throat. She’d been with a man before that was hard and
