find Steven walking into the kitchen. Damn.
“Steven needs to borrow your car for a little while,” her dad announces. “I’d take him, but I have to feed the horses and clear off some of the trees that fell during the storm.”
“What’s wrong with your car?” Ana asks.
“The battery is shot on mine. I just need to run into town and get another one,” Steven explains.
“Okay. Can you grab me a few things while you’re in town?” she asks.
“Sure. Just make me a list,” Steven replies as he helps himself to a plate of eggs. He looks over to me and says, “These are great. Did you add cheese or something?”
    “Yeah, and some garlic.”
“Awesome,” he mumbles as he eats another big mouthful.
Ana’s dad turns to Steven and says, “If you have time, swing by and pick her up a new phone while you’re in town. I called and told them she ‘lost’ her old one, so it shouldn’t be a problem.”
“What happened? Did you drop it in the toilet again?” he asks, laughing.
“No, smartass… I dropped it,” Ana says as she looks over to me and winks.
After she writes a few things down, she hands her list to Steven. “You sure this is all you need?” he asks.
“That should do it,” Ana tells him as she takes her last bite of eggs. “Let me grab my keys. Be careful out there. The roads will be bad for a few days.”
“Ana, this isn’t my first rodeo. I know how to drive on the snow.” He stands up and places his now empty plate in the sink. She tosses him her keys, and he says, “Thanks. I’ll be careful.” Then, he turns and walks out the door.
Ana’s dad stays and talks for a few more minutes and then tells us he has to get back to the farm. I offer to go with him, but he refuses. I have a feeling he knows I’m not completely healed, and I wouldn’t be much help. I’m sure he doesn’t want me to get in his way.
“Wanna watch a movie to take your mind off of things?” Ana asks.
“Why don’t we go for a walk? Get out of the house for a while.”
“Give me a minute to grab us some coats. I think I have one of Dad’s old hunting jackets that will fit you in the back closet,” she says as she heads down the hall, looking excited about our walk. She quickly returns with her arms full of clothes. She drops everything on the sofa, looks at me, and says, “Wrap up. It’s really cold out.”
I shake my head and grab a green down jacket and a pair of black gloves. Then, I watch as she transforms herself. She puts on so many layers she looks like a walking laundry basket. Damn, she’s so cute.
“Ana, it’s not that cold,” I laugh.
“You say that now. No complaining when you’re freezing out there,” she mumbles as she puts on her toboggan.
“I’ll survive,” I insist as I grab her hand and pull her into me, placing my lips against hers. She moans lightly as I wrap my arms around her shoulders, the kiss becoming more intense. I feel myself getting carried away, so with some willpower, I pull back and release her from our intimate embrace. All I can think about is how I want to drag her down the hall and make love to her again… and I want to fuck her, hard and unrestrained, but I fight the urge, knowing that she still needs time to recover from last night. I grab hold of her hand and lead her towards the door, “Let’s go if we have to.” I say the words as if this is a chore, but truth be known, I’m excited.
I was right. It is so good to be out of the house. We spend several hours walking down by the tranquil lake. All the wildlife is scurrying around and digging for food. They look happy, playing in the pure white, soft snow. We watch as they run and hide, being spooked by their own shadows, leaving thousands of little footprints in the untouched carpet of snow. Everything is covered in white… a true winter wonderland created by Nature herself.
Gripping my hand tighter, Ana leads me to the spot where she found me. I don’t recognize any of it. Her face is
