already full lips swollen from his kisses. Her arms and legs clinging to his body as he moved inside her.
âAnnalise!â a male voice shouted her name.
And Nick realized whoâd called her. âGage?â
âNick? What the hell are you doing with Annaliseâs phone?â her brother asked.
Heâd been wondering that himselfâuntil now. Now he realized that Annalise hadnât wanted to worry her brother, and sheâd thought she might give away something if she talked to him.
âSheâs here, of course,â Nick replied.
âAt our place?â Gage asked. Then his curse rattled the phone. âI thought she might show up after I sent that email. Thatâs why I called.â
âYouâve owed her a call for a while,â Nick admonished him. But Gage hadnât wanted to worry Annalise any more than she wanted to worry him now. The Huxtons were like the Paynes in how unselfishly they loved each other.
âThen why did you answer the phone instead of her?â Gage asked, his voice even gruffer than usual with suspicion.
Annaliseâs face paled, and she shook her head. She wasnât a liar. So she couldnât come up with an excuse on the spot. That was why sheâd handed Nick the phone: to lie.
âSheâs...â
What the hell would Annalise be doing if sheâd come up for a regular visit?
âSheâs cooking,â he said. She had made a habit of coming over to Gageâs and cooking for him when heâd worked for the Bureau. Nick had always been invited over, as well. Maybe that was why he hadnât considered that she could have another guy. Sheâd always had time for her brother.
And him.
Sheâd never dragged a boyfriend along. Nickâs stomach tensed at the thought of Annalise with another manâthe way sheâd been with him.
How sheâd clung to him and moved beneath him.
The way sheâd shuddered and screamed as she...
âWhatâs she cooking?â Gage asked wistfully.
Sweat beaded on his upper lip. She was cooking himâscorching him with just the memory of her passion. âI donât know.â
Gage chuckled, and his voice wasnât as rusty-sounding as it had been. âShe wonât let you in the kitchen?â
âYouâre the one she doesnât let in the kitchen,â Nick reminded him. Gage had no domestic abilities whatsoever. Their mom had been a real momâlike Penny Payneâwhoâd enjoyed taking care of her family. Gage never had to fend for himself or starve like Nick had.
Nick knew his way around the kitchen. So Annalise used to let him help. But sheâd always stood too close, always touched him too much.
Even her innocent touchesâher hand on his back as she leaned around him to grab a utensil, her hip bumping his as she dried the dishes heâd washedâhad affected him. Made his body tense and needy.
But heâd denied what he had been feeling for her, had denied that needâuntil six months ago.
âI wish I was there,â Gage murmured. He missed his sister.
Nick could understand. Heâd missed her, too, so badly, the past six months. His gaze moved down her body to the swell of her pregnant belly. Heâd had no idea.
âI thought you werenât ready to see her,â Nick said.
Annalise flinched.
Gageâs sigh rattled the phone. âI didnât think I was.â
But he was changing his mind. And Nick couldnât have that yet. He couldnât let Gage come home too soon, before heâd had a chance to explain what had happened that night when heâd lost all control.
Hell, it didnât matter what excuse he used. Gage wouldnât understand. He lived by a code, and Nick had violated that code when heâd crossed the line with Annalise.
âBe sure youâre ready before you see her,â Nick advised.
Gage sighed again. âYouâre right. I donât want
