    She turned to pin him with a look , her nostrils flaring. Rolling her eyes she turned back to the window.
     
    Lucas watched the clock, his heart thudding. She may very well get on a Greyhound and head home to daddy, but he wasn’t going to put up with it any longer. The way he saw it their marriage could end now if he spanked her or it could end later if he didn’t. Or he could stop this misbehavior in its tracks and they could have a peaceful, happy life together.
     
    The clock changed from 2:01 to 2:02. He gave her until 2:03 before he started to look for an exit.

    Alyssa climbed back into the truck and folded her arms. He waited.
     
    “ I’m ready,” she finally told him, exasperated.
     
    “ So am I,” he said.
     
    Lucas scooted toward the middle of the seat. Alyssa turned a frown his direction and edged closer to the door. She tried to jerk her arm loose when he grasped her, but he held her firm.
     
    “ Leave me alone!” she said through clenched teeth. He pulled her closer, grasped her other arm and turned her expertly across his knee in one quick, well-practiced motion. “What are you doing? Leave me alone!” she squealed. She struggled for only a moment before she laid still with her head in the driver’s seat her legs dangling over the edge of the passenger’s seat.
     
    “ What did I tell you I’d do if you kept up your pouting?”
     
    “ Let me go, Lucas! This is not funny!”
     
    “ It’s not meant to be.”
     
    Alyssa struggled in earnest now, kicking and hitting with her fists, all completely ineffective, while he held her firm. Finally she gave up. “Lucas, I swear if you don’t let me go I’ll leave.”
     
    “ Keep talking Alyssa. You’re only making your spanking worse. Do you have anything else you want to add?”
     
    “ You are not going to spank me. I won’t put up with it. Do you hear me?”
     
    “ It looks a whole lot like you don’t have any choice in the matter,” he told her.
