    Ugh . If she explained, it would sound like she was rebounding. Which maybe she was. “She—” she started, intending to lie. But she stopped as she met his gaze. She had an inkling how he’d feel about lying, if he ever found out. And besides, the thing she’d liked about her encounters with him was they felt honest. Perhaps because they were unscripted? “Originally I was supposed to be coming here with a man I’d been dominating—dating—for several months. But he bailed.” She didn’t need or want to go into the whole story.
    “So you’re attached after all.” The disappointment was clear in Dane’s voice.
    “Oh, no, trust me, we’re very broken up. And there’s no way in hell we’re getting back together.”
    “Sounds like it was serious.”
    How to explain without making it seem like she was heartless? She loved her subs. But she never considered any of them permanent. Frank, not Keith, had come the closest. But part of the allure of the relationship for them was the emotional distance created between subject and ruling queen.     She looked at him quizzically. He was being sensitive. She was surprised he had it in him. He hadn’t seemed at all sensitive when she’d first met him, but apparently he wasn’t that simple. “I’m fine. Let’s go,” she said, because she didn’t want to discuss it any further. She started walking and took five steps before she realized no one was following. Dane stood there with his massive arms crossed in front of his chest, looking sexy, strong, and immovable. Sue walked back.
    “I am,” she said, softly. “Really, I am. This is very different for me. It doesn’t invoke the same ghosts. And I wasn’t as deeply attached as, well, I thought he was. Maybe he wasn’t either.”
    He studied her for a moment and then said, “I believe you. Lead on. Laera, we’ll see you in an hour?”
    “Probably Master Bruce.”
    “I don’t promise we’ll be clothed,” Dane said.
    Sue blushed. Yeah, it seems kind of unlikely . Her heart beat faster. He was taking more and more control. Maybe it’s just the variety that’s turning me on, but I don’t care. For right now, this is what I need.
    “He’s seen— Um, yep. Okay. I’ll keep that under advisement,” said Laera.

Maybe he cares about what people think about him too . But when she glanced back, he looked perfectly content.
    She got to the door and fished the key out.
    He followed her into the room and shut the door. “Strip, please,” he said.
    “Just like that.” Despite her response, something inside called her to obey and see what he had in mind. Okay, not just curiosity. He makes me want to yield . “Don’t you like this outfit? I’ve had several compliments today.”
    He smiled, leaning back against the door. “Latex isn’t my thing.”
    “Why?”
    “I suppose partly because it’s artificial. But it hugs your body without revealing it. A beautiful shape but turned into plastic rather than delectable flesh.”
