older woman. This shit just gets even better. It takes so long to load the plane, but finally we start to pull away from the gate.
My hands grip the armrest between us as we rise into the air. The plane hits some turbulence, causing it to shake, and I start praying to any God that will listen to my sinful ass. That’s when Twisted puts his hand over mine. He takes it, placing it in his lap and giving it a reassuring squeeze. I look over at him, surprised by his unexpected offer of comfort. These times are rare with us, the gentle regular couple times. The last time it felt like this was the night when I told him about my dad. Him doing this right now almost makes me feel bad about my plan. Almost.
Things finally even out and I feel like I can breathe again. The attendants start coming around, and I work hard to try and hide my smile. “Can I get y’all something to drink?”
Twisted opens his mouth to speak but I interrupt him. “I’m just gonna have a water, but can I get a whiskey for my friend here? The doctor just told him that he has herpes and crabs. He’s kind of upset ’cause now he can’t use the pools and stuff on vacation because he’s still contagious.”
The flight attendant and older woman look at him with horrified expressions.
Twisted turns to me, his face beet red with a mix of embarrassment and anger.
    Checkmate.
    Bitch.

Chapter Twelve
    Twisted

For the first time in my life I might be speechless. I stare at Nikki, not knowing if I want to kill her or pat her on the back for a job well done. The guys and I are always ragging on and screwing with each other and none of them have ever gotten me this good. The only thing I do is shake my head.
The smile on her face is huge as she relishes in her victory. She winks at me as she continues to laugh. “Next time, don’t mess with me, buddy.” She pats me on the knee before sticking her headphones in her ears and relaxing back against the seat.
I can’t look away from her. Every day since I’ve met her there has been one question I just keep repeating to myself. Where the hell did this woman come from? I have met girls with attitude. I mean, Tracie is like one of us. I’ve never met anyone like Nikki. She is herself twenty-four seven and completely unapologetic about it.
I was nervous about her working at the bar at first because of her mouth and I could see some of the guys not finding it as sexy as I do. She’s been biting her tongue like Tracie told her to, though and she had been working out great. I can’t be there all the time when she is working but since the guys know I claimed her, I always have an eye on her.
The other day some of the guys from our ally club, Hades Soldiers, got into a drunken fight with some assholes. They were apparently running their mouths and the brothers decided that they would show them a lesson. I had just been walking in at the time and when I saw the brawl going on, my first instinct was to look for Nikki. I found her standing on the bar with Tracie, the two of them pointing and laughing at the idiots getting their asses beat. The rest of the girls we had working there had all gone running and screaming for the backroom, but not my girl.
Saying those words resonates with me. Before I met Nikki, I had no want or need for an old lady. I was content getting a different piece of ass every night. The mention of having an old lady used to make me twitch as I imagined some nagging hag bitchin’ about where I was. I remember the one time I had been on a run last week and I was supposed to be back around noon. We hit some complications, and I didn’t end up getting in until almost nine. Lucy had been blowing up Jordan’s phone and all I could picture was walking into my apartment and having Nikki bitch about me not calling her.
My hand pauses on the doorknob. I swear I can hear the bullshit now. “Why didn’t you call?” “I was worried.” “Don’t you care?” After riding for hours I just
