Akilan, staring at the wormhole’s general coordinates. The final seconds ticked down to zero on the clock that started over 550 years ago. A brilliant blue light formed about 800,000 miles from the planet, slightly inside Earth’s upcoming orbital track around the sun. The group observed a blue, string-like cloud begin to slowly spiral into the center of the light.
“There is something wrong - it is forming too fast,” Akilan remarked
The center flickered and the stretch of the blue cloud spiral contracted, condensing almost back to the size of the light. At that moment, the radiant white light of the event horizon burst through the center and instantly expanded the wormhole exit, stretching it to a 3,000 foot diameter. As the spherical mouth of the wormhole rippled like it was covered in a sheet of liquid silver, an oscillating band of gamma ray bursts formed an explosive blue outline around the event horizon where it reconfigured itself to the singularity ring.
In the course of a few seconds, the gravitational pull caused the bright blue spiraling gas clouds to expand and separate into four arms where the surrounding matter funneled into the mouth of the wormhole. The measurement index on the bottom of the viewer indicated a distance of six miles across, from the tip of one spiral arm to the other. A radiant glow emanated much further away from the phenomenon, extending for several thousand miles.
“The wormhole does not naturally stabilize this quickly. The Ansharians have discovered a way to manipulate the event horizon. It seems they will be arriving at least six hours ahead of schedule,” Akilan projected.

 CHAPTER 10
St. Peter's Square -Vatican City
T he square was filling rapidly with an increasing number of people pouring in from the Via della Conciliazione. From an Earth perspective, the wormhole appeared much differently on the far western horizon in Italy. The dazzling blue glow from the spiraling gas clouds was larger than a full moon. The center of the radiance possessed a discernible inner ring that pulsed back and forth through bluish variations, resembling a bright new sun descending behind Michelangelo’s iconic dome perched on St. Peter's Basilica.
Raylen stood near the obelisk in the middle of St. Peter’s Square. His glinting blue eyes were set charmingly within their sockets and consumed the amazing view of the forming wormhole. His wavy, sand colored hair was shoulder length and worn in a utilitarian style atop his tall and athletic frame. His light blond stubble complimented his tanned cheeks and strong chin as he stared into the westward sky.
He had been studying the obelisk since his arrival in the square from the Ciampino Airport two hours earlier on his way to attend the meeting of the Assembly of World Religions.
The Assembly of World Religions was instituted shortly after the formation of the New Earth Union. In 2029, after the Vatican became the seat of governance for the Assembly of World Religions by order of the New Earth Union, five sects were recognized as “survived religions” and each was appointed a governor to represent them in the AWR. During the process, each of the world’s major religious leaders was replaced in one form or fashion, including the last pope. The hierarchical structure for each religion was kept largely intact but supreme control of all bureaucracies now resided with the assembly governors. The Vatican was now like the UN security council of religion.
The five ‘survived religions’ were determined based on the number of pandemic survivors that still practiced a particular faith. The projections were that 180 million Christians, forty million Muslims, seventeen million Hindus, and eight million Buddhists had survived the superflu. All other groups that had survived but numbered below one million were placed in the fifth sect - the Universals.
Even though the five governors for the other religions were ultimately installed by the C7, the
