society likes to call science.
The basic premise of quantum physics is that beneath, behind, and underlying absolutely everything is a reality that animates and charges all things to appear to exist. This “subatomic façade,” as I have called it, weaves itself in dynamic fashion (of course!) through what quantum physicists like to call waves and particles. However, the catch is that while much of “energy” is predisposed to the wave dynamic/quality, there are finite points of “reality” that can be pinpointed as particles. These particles disappear and reappear simultaneously at “opposite” ends of the universe without travelling the distance between, and there have been several experiments that have captured and observed this phenomenon. The key here is that the observer affects the observed—our “reality” is observer dependent. Nothing can be measured until the moment we choose to take measure. In a nutshell, we have an effect over the universe simply through the active awareness of our perception, or consciousness.
Starhawk often speaks of all life forms as beings of consciousness that swirl and become one with the sea of consciousness, which is all-pervasive (and which we all are a part of). This “sea of consciousness” is the pan-psychic field that underlies and connects all things in quantum.
Quantum reality is ambiguity bordering on intense curiosity. The physical world can seem to be a fixed, solid thing unless we transform our perceptions and regard the world with an insight into the subjectivity/objectivity of things. For instance, a common example to illustrate the quantum nature of things is that of observation/negation—regarding an object/scene physically/visually, then turning away, only to wonder whether the object/scene is still present (as it is). Of course, when you turn back to look, the object remains; however, one can never know, in the absence of observation, whether an object truly exists or not. This is the mystery of quantum physics, and this is the future of science. We, as a society, are beginning to explore uncharted territory in which the unknown will feature prominently; after all, there will always be more mystery.
I would like to state here that I am not a quantum physicist. I am a Witch who understands, embraces, and works with magick, and sees the obvious parallels between our philosophies and cosmologies and that of quantum physics. I hope that in your exploration of the cosmos (both inner and outer), your yearning and seeking will continue to avail you in the most curious of ways.

    Energetic Exercises
for the Avid Witch
The magickal arsenal of the Witch is a very personalised thing. It’s almost like an astral toolbox that you can conjure at any moment and apply to life! I’m not talking here about physical tools that you may work with in your magickal endeavours; I’m speaking about the energetic exercises, techniques, and methods you integrate into your practice in order to increase the vital flow of energy within your being, to purify and cleanse your being, and also, simply, for play.
    The Rod of Power
The rod of power is akin to the concept and metaphysics of the tree of life alignment meditation (grounding and centring). However, the dynamics of this exercise in increasing vital flow tend towards the slightly more dramatic—a lightning flash of enlightenment that restores vitality in the system.
Stand erect in a power stance (feet spread apart, aligning with hips; palms facing forward, and arms hanging casually by your sides; shoulders back and relaxed), and ground and centre using the tree of life alignment meditation.
Be open, receptive, and ready. Intone the following quickly, sharply, and with authority:
Rod of power, lightning strike! Restore my vitality!
Mentally hear a crack of thunder and see and feel the lightning bolt hit you. Feel the rush of energy as it
