CHAPTER ONE

“Take me home tonight, Angie?” Kyle flashed me a sexy grin, his ocean blue eyes glinting. Spearing several olives with a toothpick, he added them to a cocktail he was making for a customer.
He didn’t wait for my answer. “Don’t go away. I’ll be right back, baby,” he added huskily. Then he hustled to the other side of the bar to deliver the drink.
As if I was going anywhere. I was planted on a bar stool in my usual spot at the Bite Me Bar, trying to act as if his words had no effect on me. But they did—oh yeah they did. Waves of desire rushed through my body and my panties felt moist. He could probably smell my scent, even though he was a few feet away working behind the bar.
Kyle and I had slept together more than a few times over the past few months and the sex had been beyond mind blowing. At 6’4’’, the sexy bear shifter’s surfer boy good looks—his dirty blonde hair, easy grin and powerful, muscular body, were a huge turn on. Not only was he easy on the eyes, but he knew just where and how to touch me to drive me wild. Just thinking of our time together made me cream my panties. Plus, we got along great. I really enjoyed his company and he seemed to enjoy mine.
But that’s where it stopped. As much as I would have loved to take it to the next level, Kyle made it clear he was all about having fun and playing the field. As a bartender at the Bite Me Bar, he had a big field to choose from. Lots of sexy werewomen dangled their charms in front of him and vied for his attention every night. Sometimes, he would take one of them to bed. We weren’t committed to each other so he was in the right to do as he pleased, but it hurt—a lot. I kept thinking there was something special between us and eventually he’d forget the other girls and just want to be with me, but it hadn’t happened. I knew it was time to move on.
Kyle was back in front of me in a flash. “I’m off at 2am. Do you want to wait for me here, or should we meet at your place?”
“Kyle, stop being such a horny bear and do your job. I need another drink.”
Kyle leaned over the bar counter. “Do you want another pale ale, a Howling Martini, or…”
“Beer, please.” I tried to avoid looking at his sexy ass and glanced around the Bite Me Bar. It was a busy night as usual and the drinks were flowing.
“Coming right up, you sexy she-wolf,” Kyle said, grabbing a frosty mug. He filled it to the rim with beer and set it in front of me.
I greedily took a long slurp of the hoppy brew.
“Mmm, just watching those pouty lips of yours…what you do to me woman…”
“Stop it, Kyle. Like I told you last week, I’m not sleeping with you anymore.”
God he was tempting. And I knew exactly what his pouty lips could do.
“I need you tonight…tonight…tonight…” Kyle sang, giving me a pleading, puppy dog look.
It was pretty obvious Kyle didn’t believe me last week when I told him I was done sleeping with him. I rolled my eyes. “Enough! I’m not going to bed with you again, period.”
Kyle stopped mid-note, a surprised look on his face. “You’re serious?”
“We’ve had this discussion already, Kyle. Yes, I mean it. I need a real relationship, not just a roll in the hay. Go flirt with one of your groupies. Take one of them to bed,” I wagged my finger towards the end of the bar.
Women were attracted to Kyle like bees to honey. He had more than his pick of the litter. They lined the Bite Me Bar nightly, reveling in any bone of attention he’d throw them. He would have no trouble finding someone else to warm his bed this evening. This didn’t exactly make me feel good, but it was what it was.
“Besides, I have a date tonight.”
“You have a date?” Kyle frowned.
“Yep. A real, genuine honest to goodness date—not just a romp in the sack, and he’s due,” I tapped my watch, “any minute now.”
“Really…who is it? Where did you meet him?”
“Well, that is none of your business,
